# Which proxy do I need?

> Start with what you want to check.

Proxy types describe where the IP address comes from.

**Checking a website from a home internet address in another country? Start with residential.**

    A **residential proxy** uses an address from a home internet connection.

    Use one when you need to check a website from a residential connection in another location. For example, compare the prices shown to visitors in different countries.

    A **datacenter proxy** uses an address from a hosting company.

    It can suit automated checks when your website accepts server connections and you do not need a residential address.
