# Choose a country and settings

> You can leave most settings alone at first.

Open [Residential proxies](https://proxylane.dev/dashboard/proxies) and choose a **Country**. Use **Any country** if the location does not matter.

    Open **Precise location**. Choose Region, City or ISP from the available options. ISP means internet provider.

    Changing country clears these extra choices. If the list will not load, click **Retry locations**.

    These are two connection types. Open **Advanced settings**, then **Protocol**.

    Choose **HTTP / HTTPS** unless your app asks for **SOCKS5**. Use HTTP / HTTPS for our Playwright guide.

    After generating a connection, open **Connection details**.

    | App field      | What to copy                                    |
    | -------------- | ----------------------------------------------- |
    | Host or server | Host                                            |
    | Port           | Port                                            |
    | Username       | Username                                        |
    | Password       | Password, after clicking **Reveal credentials** |

    Use these proxy details, not your account password. Keep them private.

    If your app asks for one full proxy URL, use **Copy connection** instead.

After changing a setting, click **Generate connection** again and copy the new details to your app.
